Last Message from CONUS

Hello All,

Just a quick note, and a thought to ponder as we prepare to leave CONUS (Continental United States). We are leaving by a civilain airplane (767, yep it's pimpin'), lots of space to stretch out and walk a bit (can you say 20 hours in the air? HOOAH!), however, no sharp objects are being allowed on your person or in your carry on bag. What the fuck, over? We are carrying our WEAPONS (see WAY more dangerous than a toenail clipper), but, oh-no, nothing that might jepordize the safety of the flight crew. Do these idiots know what I can do with a rifle, no ammo necessary. Butt-stroke to the head (see use the weapon as a club) and most men will be down for the count, or at least REALLY tired.

I hope that this idiotic bullshit ends when we're in the combat zone. My hair is starting to fall out.

Love,

Will

Best of Luck and God speed Will!

A favorite Patton quote from the movie: "No bastard ever one a war by dying for his country. He won it, by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his!"

Take care!

Cheers,

Just wanted you to know that all of us here at home will be waiting on your safe return. May God watch over you and all of the others who will fight so proudly for our freedom, and our great country. Personally, I have a 22 year old brother in law who is waiting to be deployed in a few short days to Kuwait. He stands tall and proud in his Marine uniform, just as I am sure you stand tall in your own. Please don't be discouraged by those who do not understand or support your brave efforts to fight for this country, one day they will realize that the freedoms and peace that they enjoy without thought does not come without a price. Everyone of us should stand behind you and everyone else who is willing to fight and lay down there life if need be for the family and friends they leave behind, so that they may continue to enjoy the peace and freedom some take for granted. You are all in our hearts and our prayers.......and we will be waiting when you all come home. Stand tall, stand proud....you will serve your country well!!!
Godspeed Will.....and thank you.

Will,

I laughed my ass off on the 3/23 comments. I give you and the rest of the guys a lot of guts, and thanks for being there for the US. I'm so sick and tired of people protesting the war over here and around the world. You guys will forever be on our minds, though out the bull shit you see over there. I wish ya the best, and looking forward to having everyone come home.

Hope to see you take a American Airlines home, and goof with them on you ride home.

Take care man, and thanks for defending the US.

Hi Will, your writing so reminds of a friend, turned journalist, who would have wanted to go to war just to be there and tell the story. Your writings are inspired and I hope that your humor and philosophy will sustain you in the days ahead. There are many of us praying that guardian angels protect you and bring you home safe, (if only to read the book) :) Thanks for your courage, humor and your willingness to share! God be with you!

The United States Military has been my life from the time I took my first birth. My father is a retired USAF CMSgt with 30 years and my mother is a retired USAF SMSgt with 26 years. Both serving in Vietnam, my dad actually went 2 different times.
I want to say how thankful I am for the men and woman who actually make a voulantary decision to put your lives on the line to guarantee the freedoms of people they have never met and probably will never meet.
To all the protestors against the war, now is the time to just support our troops. The war has started and the troops need to hear thanks for the right they are doing, not want protestors believe is wrong.
I hope that every protestor walking the picket line or even engaging in civil disobedience realizes that it is because of every soldier from the Revolutionary War to the Civil Rights Movement, to the Woman's Movement, who has voluntarily put their life in harms way so you can protest and speak out against want you feel is right and not have the fear of being maimed or killed for you thoughts. It is because of these soldiers that you have the freedom and resources you take for granted everyday. It is because of these soldiers you can protest or even disagree with exactly what these soldiers are trying to give to other nations.
I ask all you could you knowingly and willingly put your life on the line and fight for the freedoms of your nation, fight for the freedoms of people who can not fight for themselves? Fight for the freedom of human kind with the knowledge that there will be people in the world who will never understand, the same people who don't understand but live with the freedoms these soldiers are willing and ready to die for. It takes a very special, unselfish person, to be willing to die so that his nation and other nations can live like human beings, without the expectation of any kind of thanks.
I pray to God that all of the extremly special, unselfish, brave, men and woman of the United States Military and Allied Troops make it home safe.
I want to say thank you for fighting the good fight and doing the things I have only talked about doing.
God Bless Earth

Hmmm....just wanted to let you know that your being lifted up in much prayer from out in cali, I know that God has His hand of protection on His people and it will not be lifted till His work is done. So have faith knowing that Gos is always in control, even when we dont have a clue and cant see the light at the end, or if were scared and lost, God knows whats going on and thats enough. The Lord is with us always, He will never leave us or forsake us. So yeah a punk kid in Cali is lifting you up in prayer, be blessed and stay strong. and if you get a chance, drop off some prayer requests.

Reading and enjoying your 'rants' have been great, so you're someone I'm especially praying for now. I know you and the others you've worked so hard to train will do a great job. Stay safe, do your job as you've trained to do it, and come home safely to your family. I'm looking forward to the book.

I'm sure glad I found this site. Just sitting and watching everyday on CNN and not being able to let you guys now how proud we are of you is very hard. I'm sure you'd have a lot to say about just how spoiled we civilians are! Please let all your buddies know that we think you're the shit! Do what you've been trained to do and do what you've got to do to get back home. You'll be just fine and in 50 years you'll have some great stories to tell. Thanks is not enough but it's all we can say.

Will,
I want to tell you how proud everyone is of you and all other soldiers. You are all sooooo brave, I cannot imagine what you all may have to endure, I pray that you all will be safe and that God will give you the strenght to stay ahead always. My husband is currently deploying for the war now, I am heartbroken, but know that he will serve well. He is strong and carries my heart with him. I pray that angels watch him and all of you. I am so proud of you all and so proud that I am an American. I will think of all of you everyday, I will pray for your families, as I know how hard it is to be without you all, wondering how you are doing, if you are safe, if you are tired or scared. Stay on the edge, do not trust anyone, always think of every possibility or anything that can occur. Watch your back and I hope that your fellow soldiers help watch you as you watch them as well. Godspeed soldiers. We all love you!

Before this war is over the country will have fallen in love with you! Hope you can get us some postings soon-we miss you already! And what's up with a picture-I don't ever want to forget your face! Bring it back safely. Any soldiers need a pen-pal write me at brooke_bee99@yahoo.com

Will, I hope you can see by the kind words of everyone else how appreciated you, your platoon, and all military forces really are. To the protesters of the war, forget about them. Heard the expression "don't talk the talk unless you can walk the walk"? Well I can tell you that if you put anyone of those protesters in the middle of this whole mess that they would cry for their mother, shit their pants, curl into the fetal position, and not move for days. It takes a special type of person to be a soilder. I have so much respect for the men and women who are willing to put their own life on the line to ensure the future of mine and others that will never know the full extent of the pain and suffering some must survive.

I guess my whole point is; don't forget that people you will never know or meet love you, keep you in their prayers, and most of all thank you.

So have a crows eye,! Have a 360 degree view always. Watch on your back , bcos american logistcis supply chain is getting week day by day. And mighty deserts could be new to you. Anyway, take care and unless they hurt you physically, be humane to your fellows guys in Iraq. They wear their uniform to just to support their families in iraqi villages!!

Some things never change e.g dumbshits make up dumbshit rules. In Vietnam, the only rules we enforced while transporting troops in-country was, "Don't fire your weapon inside the plane" and 'Puke in your helmet, not on the floor." In 35 years, you'll look back on all this and ask, "What the fuck, over?" Thanks for a job well done and don't be a fuckin' hero. It's more important to come home in one piece.

There were two messages that people had left here I felt the need to respond to, Will I hope you don't mind!! For anyone out there who thinks we've been 'fooled' by our country or that the people in America are safe and under no 'threat', please take a look at this website-

http://www.cantcryhardenough.com/.....

if you think for one second that the people of America, Will and his brothers and sisters of the armed forces and every American citizen, won't stand to fight and protect our land, our lives and our children...you are sadly mistaken. Our government did not fool us, these cowardly terrorists are fooling themselves!! America will prevail!!

God Bless you Will and thank you again for all you and the men and women of the armed forces are doing for us!!!

Will,

I don't know you, but your in my heart. I can't wait for the troups to come home. I have a six year old, Billy who asks questions daily about the war. He is very patriotic and is proud to be an American, just like the rest of his family. From us to you god speed in your return and kick some ass.

Posted by: Denise on March 26, 2003 01:33 PM

Will,

I'm already here waiting for you. I'm AF AMMO, so, not close to the front. But I sure wish I could be in Baghdad the day that S.H. eats dirt. The sandbox itself is not quite as bad as I thought it would be. Seeing shades of brown everyday does kinda make the eyes hurt when you look at just about any other color. You'll get used to it. For all you back in the states. Thanks for the support, the prayers, and the best wishes. We'll be home as soon as Saddam eats dirt. AMMO makes the mission - "Providing the enemy the opportunity to die for his country!"

I personally think that Will and all the Others are doing the BEST that they can. Someone has to defend this country!!! And if you people that come here don't like what our country is doing say it somewhere else...because this is not the place. I don't believe this war is about oil and all that bullshit...Saddam should have been killed long ago. And those that follow his leadership need to go right along with him.

Will...GODSPEED MY FRIEND.

TAKE CARE AND OUR PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU.
GOD BLESS YOU AND GOD BLESS AMERICA AND ALL THAT IT STANDS FOR.

Hi, soldier !
I do not think you really exists. But let's believe.
I'm a french " seals " Reserve captain ( 4 stripes ).
And I'm not thinking you will fight for freedom and country, as so many blokes tell you.
You'll fight for oil, and because of US arrogance and historical blindness, will set ablaze all Middle-East. And world.
I really hope you, personaly, will get out of this mess : but remember what Gl de GAULLE, a man who US citizen deprized so much, told you, in 1967, about Vietnam :
do not go there, we've been in for 100 years, and they won against us. YOU WILL NEVER WIN.
And you didn't.
Good luck, soldier ! Make me a liar

I forgot :
To bring you luck, that's a prayer a young second Lieutenant
of Free French wrote in '42 : you will have no problem to translate, as we, at that time, were " allies ";

Billy Smythe Clinton was too interested in making love and not war. He did not retaliate against our enemies. They thought we were weak. But we will not stand by and watch a madman torture his people and support terrortism.
Thank you for defending the Iraqi people and putting the world's terrorists on notice.

Hi Will,

Today the address to your blog was on Reuters, (which is where I found it.) So now you've made CNN and Reuters. Who would of thunk it? You're famous man! What a time to bug out.

Of course it explains some of the flack you're getting in comments. Ignore them. Your only job is to get home safe.

I'm new to the whole blog concept. One could lose days linking from blog to blog.

BTW I live in Wisconsin, though I'm not a born and bred cheesehead, (Yes. It is a cult.). You just keep telling everyone how bad this place is cause I don't want any more neighbors.....hehe. (The key to living through winter in Wisc. is a heated garage......shhhhhh. Of course, I never have to stand guard duty unless the dog or the kids are sick.)

You do gotta love the Dells in summer though.

On a serious note, all of America is praying for the safe return of our men.

I can't stand next to you over there, but I know my Lord is with you. Lean on Him. He can be trusted.

God Bless,

I wait that in the end of that war the drastic consequences for the humanity to be the smallest ones possible.

Everything seems confused: The real reasons of that war, the day by day of the war... we don't know on whom trusts, which the information that is real, which that is lie.

Confusion and more confusion: English airplane that is reached by American missiles, American battery reached by American missiles, English helicopters if colliding... What confusion is that???

Which will be the end of that war that every day that passes being very clear that the objective of the same is to can goes and more power.
Where will it stop that current obsession for the power??? With the end of the regime of Sadam or with the fall of E.U.A???

The world gives many turns. Everything is possible.

Don't underestimate the opponent. He is very dangerous.

Destruir para depois construir novamente. Isso é resultado da obsessão pelo poder.
O poder fala mais alto do que o sentimento pela vida dos próprios americanos.

I would like to put together a package to send, but I don't personally know anyone in the military. If you can send me a name and address to send to one person who can share it with the whole platoon, I will be more than happy to do so. I know many folks over here who want to do something, but just don't know what or how. A heartfelt thank you to all of the men and women who are putting their lives on the line!

I will close with the following advice: 1) Don't eat or breath sand (hawking up mud is, with out a doubt, GROSS). 2) Show Hussien what happens when you piss off America, and 3) While this isn't advice I wish I could post a picture of my 2 yr old son so you and all Americans could see why we want you home safe: So you can spend your post-war years with the family you left behind.

Dear friend,
first of all sorry about my italian/english language!
I'm with you all, sincerely with my heart. On last Summer I visited Normandy beaches and from the deep of my heart I sent a big thank you to all the boys that landed there on 1944: thanks to those boys I'm still living in a democratic country, in that country that - what a shame for us - started the conflict. There's no doubt about your valorous and honourable courage as US marines, respected and feared by the entire world; I give respect to you but I can't understand the way how US started this war. Thanks to God, I've never lived a war but my father did, and through his tales I swore to myself to be always against wars. I'm neither with Saddam nor with all those politicians that decide the future of our lives sitted on the back of a desk for just one reason: OIL. It's easy for them to command you.
That's why I hope the war will end soon and that you all may go back home and stay with your families. I also hope the Iraqi people will have the courage to say stop to Saddam and his cruelty.
Take care of you and tour teamates!
Whatever He's named, God bless you all, marines and iraquis!
Ciao from Italia

Good Luck! My (American) wife and I, along with a silent (and not in the TV news...) but huge part of italians, are with you.

Will,

Since I work in the commercial airline industry, I can sure relate to the silliness of taking your toenail clippers away. Don't they realize that a long, well sharpened, unclipped toenail can cut someones throat if wielded by a trained soldier? :) Now, on to the real stuff, I just want you to know how appreciative I am for all of you over there. I believe that you all are over there for the right reasons, since a despot like Saddam is nothing more than a light in the darkness for all those terrorist moths like Al-Qaeda. They eventually gravitate towards him. I have three kids 4-12, and I believe that you are making this world a little safer for them to grow up. Try to maintain your humanity over there, because that's what separates us from those we're fighting against. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Be safe, come back home in one piece and remember that you guys are heroes to those of us at home.

I loved the letter your Mom wrote to you and I hope that guardian angel is doing his thing. Most people in everyday life have lost their sense of humor and it is so refreshing to see that you possess an abundance of humor.

Thank you for your bravery, thank you for risking your life so that others can live in peace. You are a hero.
Can I send you something? Just ask.

Take good care of yourself and your buddies.

Will,

You make us laugh, you make us cry, but more than anything... you make us proud.

Becuase of you and countless, nameless soldiers the United States of America represents a life that someone from a foreign place can only dream about.

We often take forgranted the freedoms we have. Case in point: the anti-war protestors. Do they realize that they wouldn't have the freedom to protest our government and the war if not for those soldiers that gave their lives
defending and protecting those rights? Do they realize that without a battle our freedoms can be violently taken from the American people? Without standing up for what we believe in the US would inevitably condone the mistreatment of other peoples in the face of fascist and more often terroristic government.

So for all those anti-war protestors... protest the war not those men and women that protect your freedoms. They deserve our love and support because without them where would we be?

Will, thank you and for everything that you and all the other servicemen and women are doing. I, like most, pray for our soldiers safety as well as the safety and protection of all those innocent people we are trying to liberate. May God bless you and bring you home safe.

Waiting for news and more additions to the blog {I check back every day :) }

Thank you for all that you and your fellow soldiers are doing. Be safe and God be with you all.

To edis and all of the other pansies that don't like us.... screw you. You wouldn't like us even if didn't do this. BTW, you might want to make sure you do't have any WMD or support terrorists in your country or we might pay a visit there next.

Shame on Mr. Bush. He's doing the right thing (remove Saddam form power), for the wrong reason (oil resources). Does anyone believes in that freedom-bullshit?

love from Brazil, and good luck, man!

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too:
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give away to hating
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;
If you can dream-and not make dreams your master;
If you can think-and not make thought your aim,
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same:
If you can hear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools;
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a work about your loss:
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the will which says to them: "Hold on!"
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kinds-nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much:
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the earth and everything that's in it,
And-which is more-you'll be a man, my son!

Will,
I'll never understand nor justify this war but I believe in compassion and love...
Good luck

I don't understand anything.
I mean... All of you, american people, support this war? Nobody thinks it's something horrible?
I would like to think there's some good people between you...

Posted by: J on March 27, 2003 09:09 AM

Hi Will
I've been impressed by your writing style and humour. I'm a Nigerian and I'm really impressed by the way you Americans are so proud of your country and are ready to die for it. I am praying for you and all the other guys out there to oust Saddam, although I think President Bush would have helped American PR if he had got a broader coalition like his dad did. But then, someone has to stand up to Saddam and he was brave to. Let's hope all goes well with this war.
Anyway, good luck and God bless.

Posted by: Wale on March 27, 2003 09:21 AM

Will, I too stumbled upon your writings and have enjoyed reading them. I see that you haven't posted since March 23 and I so hope and pray that you are safe. I pray for every soldier on those battlefields and their families. I hate it that we have to fight but Saddam needs to be stopped. If not, he will soon gain control of a larger area by taking some of the smaller countries around him. His sons are next in line. Why can't we give Iraq civilians or otherwise about 3 days notice to surrender to us and then at the end of the 3rd day go in and wipe Iraq off of the map? Why are we dilly dallying around with them? Again, I pray that you are safe and return that way. God speed, Will.

To all of you people who are against this war:

Go into CNN.com and see this article and picture.

"US Marines searching Iraqi military headquarters in Nasiriya, came across a mural depicting a plane crashing into a building complex resembling New York's twin towers, a news agency photograph showed Wednesday.

The plane's logo and coloring resembled that of Iraqi Airlines. This photo was causing a bit of a stir."

They (Iraqi officials) probably laugh at this picture every day. I believe this is all the evidence that we need to wipe this man off the face of the earth.

How quickly we forget the lives lost on our soil. How quickly we forget the terror rained upon our nation. What if it had been one of your family members or close friends, would you forget so quickly?

Will, you are still in my thoughts and prayers. Please write soon so we know you are safe.

Good luck, God Bless, and kick some major butt!

Hi Will:
You, the Americans, said that you went to Iraq to free Iraq people from Saddam dictatorship, but for doing it you're killing them... there's something wrong inside this reasoning that i really can't understand. The only battle that i trust is against ignorance and lack of knowledge, I'm sure (and luckily not only me, but the most of the human race) that this is the only way to destroy terrorism and terrorists. The Pope is praying for peace. I'm sure, God will never bless your bombs.
Anyway, i hope all the soldiers can return soon and safe to their families.

The Military Man

The average age of the military man is 19 years. He is a short haired,
tight-muscled kid who, under normal circumstances is considered by society
as half man, half boy. Not yet dry behind the ears, not old enough to buy a
beer, but old enough to die for his country. He never really cared much for
work and he would rather wax his own car than wash his father's; but he has
never collected unemployment either. He's a recent High School graduate; he
was probably an average student, pursued some form of sport activities,
drives a ten year old jalopy, and has a steady girlfriend that either broke
up with him when he left, or swears to be waiting when he returns from half
a world away. He listens to rock and roll or hip-hop or rap or jazz or
swing and 155mm Howitzers. He is 10 or 15 pounds lighter now than when he
was at home because he is working or fighting from before dawn to well
after dusk.

He has trouble spelling, thus letter writing is a pain for him, but he
can field strip a rifle in 30 seconds and reassemble it in less time in the
dark. He can recite to you the nomenclature of a machine gun or grenade
launcher and use either one effectively if he must. He digs foxholes and
latrines and can apply first aid like a professional. He can march until he
is told to stop or stop until he is told to march.

He obeys orders instantly and without hesitation, but he is not without
spirit or individual dignity. He is self-sufficient. He has two sets of
fatigues: he washes one and wears the other. He keeps his canteens full and
his feet dry.
He sometimes forgets to brush his teeth, but never to clean his rifle.
He can cook his own meals, mend his own clothes, and fix his own hurts.
If you're thirsty, he'll share his water with you; if you are hungry, his
food. He'll even split his ammunition with you in the midst of battle when
you run low.
He has learned to use his hands like weapons and weapons like they were his
hands. He can save your life - or take it, because that is his job.
He will often do twice the work of a civilian, draw half the pay and
still find ironic humor in it all. He has seen more suffering and death
then he should have in his short lifetime. He has stood atop mountains of
dead bodies, and helped to create them.

He has wept in public and in private, for friends who have fallen in combat
and is unashamed.
He feels every note of the National Anthem vibrate through his body
while at rigid attention, while tempering the burning desire to
'square-away' those around him who haven't bothered to stand, remove their
hat, or even stop talking. In an odd twist, day in and day out, far from
home, he defends their right to be disrespectful.

Just as did his Father, Grandfather, and Great-grandfather, he is
paying the price for our freedom.
Beardless or not, he is not a boy.
He is the American Fighting Man that has kept this country free for over
200 years.
He has asked nothing in return, except our friendship and understanding.
Remember him, always, for he has earned our respect and admiration with his
blood.

Prayer wheel for our military...please don't break it. Please send this
on after this short prayer for our ground troops in field, sailors on
ships, and airmen in the air. There is nothing attached.... This can be
very powerful.... Just send this to all the people in your address book. Of
all the gifts you could give a US Soldier, Sailor, Marine or Airman, prayer
is the very best one.

Prayer Wheel
"Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they
protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they
perform for us
in our time of need. Amen."

Hey, Will!

Just wanted to say "THANK YOU" for your courage and dedication to our country! It is such a blessing to live in a country where one can voice one's opinion and not be afraid of recriminations from the government (even if one's opinions are anti-patriotic)!

I believe in what you are doing over there - bringing freedom to the people of Iraq. I believe everyone on God's planet is entitled to that right - not just us.

Tell all of our troops over there that we in Oklahoma are praying for and supporting you all!

Keep your spirits up and your butts down!

God Bless You All!

I assure everyone that we Americans do feel that war is terrible, but war is what is happening. So now is the time to support the people whos lives on the line. We send our love to Will on this site, because he is writing to us. I'm pretty sure he knows that this war is a horrible time he doesn't need to hear that he needs to know how he is appreciated, even when he is not even asking for it.
all of the messages on this site is what this is all about, contary to popular belief. What should we do? how long should we sit back and watch the people of Iraq suffer and live in proverty, when their leader is sending his sons off to be educated in England. How long should we try to discuss options with him while he kills people for trying to choose their own paths in their own lives.
thanks should go out to every person from all nations who have fought for the right to be treated with compassion and understanding, at least tolerance. isn't it great to be able to disagree with something and say exactly what you disagree with. I wonder if a person my age in Iraq can take time out of their day and read opinions of different people and response with their true and honest feelings. Maybe we should ask the many Iraqi people who have had to flee, many times leaving loved ones behind and coming to an unfamiliar place having just the memories of how beautiful things were where they are from, like the way the sun shined in their face, just for one thing that is rightfully theirs. Hey Will,
I just want you to know that the United States are very lucky to have great soldiers like you and your fellow men fighting this war. It makes me very sad to think what all of you are going through, but happy for what you are fighting for. Stand your ground and never give up. I am praying for all of you and I hope that you come home soon and this could all be over and settled. It makes me proud to be an American to see the good that yall are doing. Hang in there and it will all be over soon. Good luck and hurry home.

Anyway, be careful and watch your back, and the other guys' backs, too.

Who's Will Anyway?
What's All This Then?
As most of the regular readers of Rooba.net know, I have a few friends that have been sent or called up for the soon-to-be-conflict in Iraq. One such friend is Will aka Will not weasel or Will from Omaha or whatever other moniker he's using on my site that day.

Will is a pretty good writer and this is the collection of his writings. It'll be interesting to hear updates from a soldier's point of view, so I'll be posting them for all to read.

Take care Will
