Cooling off
Hello All, Well the weather is turning cold here. The days of sweltering heat are fading into nights of biting cold like the Missouri River in late April (Yep, been there, done that). It's nice not sweating all day in the sun, and there's also a nice wind storm that blows in around 1030 or 1100 every day. Nice that is until you remember that there isn't so much sand here as there is dust that billows up and tries to block out the sun. There is a second enemy here that I am determined to hold back at all costs. Flies. They are everywhere, and when you consider that we have open sewers where the 'gray' water from the showers runs into it's not surprising. Personally I think of it as a health risk, but considering where I'm at, not much of one. The food isn't bad, and they have midnight meals too so that's looking up. A good night is a quiet night, and so far that's about all we've had. There was one incident with a trip flare... a little pucker factor. Maybe a 7 on a 1-10 scale. Turned out to be nothing more that a dog running around in the night. I love you all, Will 10:48 AM

Hi Will; just wanted to let you know, that your still in my thoughts and prayers. Any word on when you get to come home for awhile?? We also need a nephew update when you have time. Take care and God Bless you and your men. We still are proud of all of you. debby Posted by: debby on October 28, 2003 11:05 AMHang in there and Thanks. glenn Posted by: Glenn Woods on October 28, 2003 12:18 PMJake went home from the hospital Sept 19 and he weighed 4# 11 oz then. He now weighs 7 pounds and is doing well. His Mom said they are sure his lungs work well as he is very capable of letting them know when he is hungry. Thanks to all of Will's readers for their thoughts and prayers about Jacob. Must be a lot of Grey matter in that grey water. Surely hope they are not serving up grits at that midnight meal - as that raw sewage would ruin yer appetite for the "Cum and get it!" call. Hi Will, Glad to hear about the relief from the heat and about little Jake. He's a survivor, that one. Congratulations to mom, dad, grandma and Uncle. Aren't you about due for some R and R? Thanks you for an awesome job in country, as a leader, and with this web site. It keeps us in touch in many ways. Tell your men from Cali that we are all o.k.--safe and sound. Just to let you know that the Reserves (Army and National Guard) have been flying some awesome cargo drops, including night flights to fight the fires here in CA. They can drop over 3000 gal. of fire retardant and water, whereas the helicopters only drop 375 gal. Thanks to all our Reservists. Without you guys, we'd be in a BIG MESS!!

THANK YOU Hope that you get a taste of some good autumn chow - ok - at least an apple pie! Well I guess we will have to get a shipment togeather and remind you more of home. Happy to hear that you little nephew is doing well! it is really great to see he has a strong family. God Bless you all - Just discovered you and your site thanks to msnbc. You should get a book deal, your stories are great, funny, happy, interesting, believe me I went way over my lunch hour reading through it, laughing out loud until my coworkers were all looking over my shoulder. Hello Will, Please, oh, please tell me that none of your company was hurt when that Chinook crashed last night! Everytime I hear of someone being killed, I think of you and your men.... I'm praying that you ALL will be able to come home where it's safe VERY soon... Posted by: Firebrand on November 2, 2003 01:49 PMHi Will... Sorry for not reading your newest entries sooner, but my ex husband lost his battle with lung cancer and died Oct 27th, leaving behind our/my son, Wyatt, 7 years old. It's been a rough two weeks here. Yesterday I had to resign from my job of 10 years at the state prison because they cannot/will not give me weekends/holidays off, and there are no child care places/people that will do so on weekends/holidays on a constant basis. Unbeleivable, hmm? I even wrote a memo 18 months ago when he was diagnosed, stating I would need weekends/holidays off if/when he died. My son comes first and foremost. *sighs* I guess this time my son has it worse than you do, even there, Will. I'm glad little Jake is doing well..thanks for the update Will's Mom. I'm going to read your other newer entries now. God Bless and take care of yourself and your men, Will. Everyone's life touches so many other lives. Godspeed, Post a comment

Who's Will Anyway?
What's All This Then?
As most of the regular readers of Rooba.net know, I have a few friends that have been sent or called up for the soon-to-be-conflict in Iraq. One such friend is Will aka Will not weasel or Will from Omaha or whatever other moniker he's using on my site that day.
Will is a pretty good writer and this is the collection of his writings. It'll be interesting to hear updates from a soldier's point of view, so I'll be posting them for all to read. Take care Will ~Captain Rooba
