Colder

Hello All,

Well the first annual Iraqi Day of Resistance (see Terror) has come and gone and my sector has been REALLY quiet. How quiet? The dogs weren't even barking that night which was nice, weird but nice. Maybe it's too cold for them too?

How cold is it? Lemme tell you all about it. When I was back in Nebraska I would make fun of people that shivered in 40 degree weather. "HA! What are you from Hawaii? It gets WAY colder than this around here!" Oh what a jerk I was. Last night when I went to work I had on long johns and a Gortex Jacket and was still cold. I'm not happy about what I have to do today, but it's got to be done. I'm buying underwear.

Hold on a minute? Doesn't he already have underwear? Well, no. You see I chucked it all back at Camp Coyote when it was hitting 120 degrees by 1100 (that's 11 o'clock for all you lucky and warm civilians) and it looked like the war was over. The logic being that the war was over and we'd be heading home. Ah fate, what cruel games you play. The good news is that we've a PX here. The bad news is the selection.

Normally I like boxers. A little space and that makes 'em comfy. Here, however, I'm limited to briefs and not just any briefs, Army briefs. At home you might call them tighty whities, but in the Army they are brown. Nope, tighty brownies isn't what we call them, they're affectionately refered to as 'Combat Bun-Huggers' (that's a nod and a wink to John L. III). I'm not sure how the 'Boys' will handle the restricted environment, and there is already talk of a strike vote. I'm a little worried but I'm sure we can work something out.

In the mean time we're a little over a week away from turkey day and I am thankful for Jake. The little guy is growing, and according to my sister his lungs are working great. Especially when he's hungry. I started counting the days to when I get to leave this hole but then realized that we haven't hit double digits yet... too depressing so I'll wait a little while longer.

I love you all,

Will

Might I suggest a size or two larger? For the sake of the "boys" of course! Strike?? You know the 'boys' are going to bring the union in....they're going to want to bring in a union-only 'scratch service.' And just wait until the 'boys' want a raise! LOL LOL (Just a little punny humor!)

Glad Jake is doing well - my preemie nephew (originally 1.1 pounds) is a pistol - you would never know he had ever been a preemie. Sounds like Jake is well on his way.

Stay safe.

Hey, I first found you while I was staying in Atlanta...now Im back home in Toronto..where it too is cold. But this weekend is supposed to be 15 degrees C....thats awesome! Us canadians call that mild. So no jackets needed! Anyhoo, I cant wait till you get to go home...keep up the awesome work and call me if you need me to whoop some Iraci ass! LOL

God Bless!

We'll be so glad to have you home again in this strange Nebraska weather where we had thunderstorms and a tornado watch today, in the middle of November! :)

A friend of mine was called up today. Don't know when he'll be shipping out just yet, but I pray daily for your safety and his when he comes your way. Be careful playing over in that there sandbox, ya hear?

Will - I forwarded your post to the "honey" who will be leaving for the "Theater" in a few - told him to stock up for the "boys" sake. Of course if they go on a strike for a year it won't bother me (pun intended!)

Now the Army tells them they can't take any "creature comforts" - his reply - did I show you my 20 yr letter? Ahh well the ready reserves will make it.

I know you're counting the days Will - and you've had a really tough time - actually I think the 2nd shift will have it a little easier because the 1st shift has already established so much. Thanks again for keep us informed!

Stay Safe!!!

Mmm Hmmmm.....

Well, being female, I can't comment much on 'the boys' (at least not in an owner's fashion!) and their restriction issues, but SOME of us humans don't have that problem! HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.....MUAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Ahem. Sorry. Us females gotta get our licks in when we can Will! (Now QUIT thinking like THAT!) Honestly! *rolls eyes* Uh, I'm not making this any easier, am I? *BIG grin*

Uh oh...I just remembered....we have those damn bras to deal with which YOU don't. *grumbles* I personally believe that bras were invented by men to distract females with their discomfort, and thereby repressing them. Yes! It's true I tell you! *grins* Our 'girls' need to breathe I tell you! DOWN WITH BRAS...

Uhmm...sorry....I went away there for a minute but I've returned.*face reddens* Getting back to YOUR discomfort; wow....we're really getting alot of very personal info, eh Will? Next you'll be telling us that you need to buy a size larger than your waist size, for 'other reasons', eh? Hey...it's your blog...you can tell the story however you want! *hahahaha*

Here's hoping your Thanksgiving is at least decent. I bet your mom will be putting out a huge feast next year for you...patience.

Godspeed,
Judi

Will,
Glad to hear Jake is doing well, and glad to see you are keeping your sense of humor.
With Thanksgiving coming up, could you do me a favor? Tell all the soldiers in your unit that we Americans are very thankful for them and their willingness to brave hardships and sacrafices to do what needs to be done. We are also thankful for their families who also endure the long separations.

Hang in there! Often think of you and wish you could be home. Marit and hubby Daren think you do indeed have the "stuff" for a book. We can all say "we knew him when..." or perhaps you'd rather we didn't align our names with you. We're so glad Jake is doing well...you deserve a healthy and scrappy little nephew. Anyway we all wish you well and pray for your safety. Thanksgiving blessings to you. Karen and Neal

Hi Will;

I am so happy little Jake is doing so well. I was wondering, is the USO going to put on show for your camp next week?? I think they should, you and your men are the reason that we can celebrate. People like you and the rest of our troops give us every reason in the world to be Thankful.

I remember you and all the troops in my prayers. I say an extra special one for Mighty Jake.

Also a special note to your mother:
Hi Will's Mom, your son is pretty special and you have every reason in the world to be proud of him. I keep you in my prayers too. This has to be tough on you too.

God Bless

Hey Will,

Long-time reader but first time poster here. Sorry to hear it's turning cold there. Don't they have a "happy medium?" Anyway, you should check out Operation Air Conditioner at http://www.operationac.com/ - they are now providing space heaters. (And for those of us lucky and warm civilians reading this, yes, they need ca$h donation$!)

God bless. Stay safe and, hopefully, warm.

You're killing me smalls...thanks SO much for the underwear update. Guess I know what you need to ask Santa for now.
As Fire said, we've got thunderboomers here (well, at least yesterday). May hit mid-60's again this week. I know, "Shut the hell up you biotch".
Think we've got awhile before we hit double digits don't we? I just keep going with that April thing (that and I can't count past double digits, it's not like I'm a math major or something).
Well dear - you do whatever you need to do to keep them boys happy. Keep us posted on the strike....

Will,
I am so glad to hear that you are doing well. Just think it is 35 below here in Fairbanks Alaska today, and it really doesn't faze us Alaskan's too much. The kids still go outside for recess until it gets around 20 below. Glad to here that Jake is getting stronger. We are all praying for your save return.

Take care Will

Oh NOO!! Brownie-frownies? It must be getting bad...

Hang in there, help is on the way, you guys are definitely coming home next spring - They have begun the large-scale mobilizations of 3 Nat'l Guard enhanced Brigades (all set to deploy early March) as well as several Reserve units (all in all about 50,000 troops). Not much consolation, I'm sure - but having been in your boots, I know you'll take what you can get.

Glad you're doing well (relatively speaking. . .send my sympathies to "the boys" :P). I did hear about the bomb attacks and hadn't had a chance to check your posting in a while!

And congrats on finding the end of the tunnel, too (LMAO - if you take this out of context, it's a TOTALLY different conversation).

Take care :)

"You're killing me smalls". ??? HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

I go commando year round in IL. That little layer of cotton doesn't do a damned thing for heating. Maybe you can buy them in two different sizes and "double up". The boys will eventually get over it.....or around it......or something! :)

Glad the babe is doing well. Take care and thanks for the blogging.

Hi Will,
I'm glad to hear that little Jake continues to improve, and be a little toughie!
Regarding the temperature, we're having a regular heat wave here in the frozen tundra. It's supposed to hit 61 on Thursday. Hope you and "the boys" can stay nice and toasty warm. I guess boys will be boys ;>)
I saw a post that mentioned space heaters. I don't know if there any of those at your PX. I bet there'd be many people who would gladly donate space heaters to you guys.
You guys are in our thoughts and prayers. Best wishes for a nice quiet, peaceful Thanksgiving. I hope they let you guys have some time off to rest. We'll all be thinking of you all, and be thankful for the dedicated people like you that are sacrificing, and defending our freedom. God bless you all. Hang in there and stay safe.

Will,

The wife and I want to wish you the best. We know that it will be depressing not being home for the holiday's, but you never know miracles can happen, even in Iraq.

We enjoy email back and forth with your mother, and my mother enjoyes talking with you mom on the phone. Between your blogs and your mother's update, it is as if we never grew up and moved to opposite ends of the state.

Take care and remember we are all praying for you and we are THANKFUL this thanksgiving that you are safe and that you have a strong determined nephew. Not to mention all the people across this nation who read your posting and wish you well.

I think that can say this for most of the people who read your postings, that it won't be quite the holiday knowing that our love ones and friends are not home with us.

Thanks for giving us the non-media bias of what is going on.

Hi Will,

I’ve been reading and lurking on your blog for a long time. But I just wanted you to know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. I'm so sorry that you are going to spend this Thanksgiving away from your family and friends. But I do want you to know just how much I admire you and I count you personally among my blessings. I am just one American but I know I speak for many more when I say how proud we are to have young men such as yourself that serve our country. Most of us may never have the privilege to know you personally, but we know you are the example of the greatness that this country and we appreciate you courage and commitment. When I count our blessings on Thursday, Will’s name will be called at my table. God Bless you and keep you safe.

Much love and respect to you Will.

Who's Will Anyway?
What's All This Then?
As most of the regular readers of Rooba.net know, I have a few friends that have been sent or called up for the soon-to-be-conflict in Iraq. One such friend is Will aka Will not weasel or Will from Omaha or whatever other moniker he's using on my site that day.

Will is a pretty good writer and this is the collection of his writings. It'll be interesting to hear updates from a soldier's point of view, so I'll be posting them for all to read.

Take care Will
